Rebuilding And Revalving Procedures

Rebuilding/Revalving Procedure

  • Drain nitrogen remove Schrader/tank valve (this ensures that the shock is safe to work on).
  • Clamp shock top cap into soft jaws with the shock shaft oriented up.
  • Remove mid cap retention hardware either 3 bolts or set screw and threaded mid cap.
  • Push seal housing down into shock body to expose snap ring.
  • Remove snap ring (do not use sharp objects and use caution not to scratch shock cylinder or shaft).
  • Clean out snap ring groove to aid in removing the seal housing.
  • Slide shaft assembly out (tapping upward on bottom cap with a dead blow hammer can assist in removal).
  • Once shaft assembly is out you can either drain your oil or make valving adjustments.
  • Setting oil level is done with resi piston pushed all the way in (piston is threaded ยผ-20 all-thread can be used if a t-handle is not available) the oil level should be set to the snap ring groove on all non โ€œBolt Inโ€ applications. Oem/Bolt in shocks should be built with the oil level 1โ€ from the snap ring groove with resi piston fully seated.

Bleeding Procedure

  • Stroke resi piston back and forth to release all air bubbles top oil off to proper level once all air bubbles are gone.
  • If this is a bypass shock capping and tilting the shock right side up will release air from the bypass tubes this may need to be done more than once depending on tube orientation.
  • When all air has been expelled and proper oil level is attained you may draw the resi piston into the reservoir to make room for the shaft assembly to be installed (take caution on bottom mount resi applications not to suck air into the resi port).
  • Install shaft assembly into body adjusting resi piston as necessary.
  • Once the shaft assembly is in the body a few inches tap on bottom cap with a dead blow to โ€œcrackโ€ open the shims releasing the air trapped in the piston.
  • Once there is no more air coming out you may slide the seal housing down to the body bring the oil level up to a sweet spot where a small amount of oil is expelled when the seal housing is pushed in notice that there are no air bubbles coming out and you may fully seat the seal housing into the body.
  • Re-install snap ring into its groove on the body.
  • Push resi piston in with t-handle to force out the seal housing.
  • Verify that the snap ring is fully seated, if itโ€™s not the shaft will launch out like a cannon.
  • Re-install mid cap.
  • Remove t-handle.
  • Reinstall Schrader/tank valve.
  • Charge with nitrogen 150psi recommended depending on application charge may increase to 250psi.
